Teochew Cemetery - สุสานแต้จิ๋ว
The Teochew Cemetery, also known as Wat Don Graveyard, is situated between Charoen Rat Rd and Sathon Soi 11. It was founded in 1899 by Teochew migrants, or Chaoshan in Mandarin. The ancestors of the Teochew people moved to present-day Chaoshan from the Central Plains of China in order to escape civil wars during the Jin dynasty. Later, they migrated to Siam during a series of migratory waves from the 18th to 20th century.
In 1996, the area was turned into a much-needed public park by the local authorities and the three organizations that manage the cemetery: the Teochew Association of Thailand, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, and the Hainan Dan Family Association.
The cemetery is now used by weightlifters and senior karaoke singers, as well as visitors from the nearby Jawa Mosque and Vishnu Temple. The cemetery isn't completely overrun even though it's located in the densely populated Sathon district, mainly because many locals still believe the cemetery might be haunted by ghosts.
